Fishing Page

Well this my fishing page. I hope to have some good pics of my favourite species.
To the right is a pic of me with my first fish. A silver Bream while I was 5, caught using corned beef fat as bait on Great Keppel Island. I've been hooked ever since.
My family would camp at the islands off the coast from Yeppoon and eat mostly fish that we caught. My dad was a keen spearfisherman and could easily spear a days food for the family in an hour. My great uncle Alec Weir and his family would also camp with us and it was the best way to holiday. I still love camping and the islands and believe if more families could holiday like that it would teach their children to love the outdoors.
Now I fish for sport as I no longer eat fish. The fish are fewer and further away but they are still fun to catch and now more of a challenge.
I have an 11' tinny with a 25 HP outboard. I'd love a bigger boat but the bank balance doesn't allow that, so I find the fish where I can reach them in my boat. So far some of the species I have caught in my small boat are doggie mackerel, spotted mackerel, grey mackerel, silver bream, potato cod, wire netting cod, estuary cod, shovel nose shark, hammer head shark, white tip reef shark, wobbegong shark, blackall, whiting, grunter, barramundi, catfish, eel, red throat emperor, flathead, threadfin salmon, king salmon, sand crab, mud crab, squid, moses perch, mullet, prawns, gar fish, eel tail catfish, jew, stingray, longtom, flounder, sole and a few more. If you're ever in Rockhampton give me a yell and we can go fishing.

My first fish. A black bream from the main beach on Great Keppel Island. Back when a house on the beach was $100 a week. Actually the top 3 pics were on Keppel

Dad and 2 fish with La-La the dog.

I fish for "Barra", Mackerel, Grunter and Shark. If you need tackle I've got plenty. I use a Silstar POWER TIP rod and Abu 7000 reel for ocean fishing and a Berkley Bump single-handed bait-caster with a Shimano Bass One reel for lure tossing. One day I hope to get a marlin but till then a 12 lb barra on 8 lb line around the rocks gives me enough challenge I don't always win but I don't eat fish anyway and I can't see me paying $2000 a day to go fishing. My trusty 11' tinny is all I need in the river or in the bay where the mackerel are caught. If you haven't caught mackerel, they're a hard fighting fish that never gives up (Even when it's in the boat) that gives more fillet for weight than any other fish I know. Now I'm learning fly fishing and hope my first fish on fly to be a Barra.

My mate James filleting fish that we had just caught. When I visited him we would go fishing and when we came back he would eat the fish for breakfast then go to work.
